Anti-Diphtheria Immunization will Touch Adults

City Provincial Government is about to expand the range of anti-diphtheria immunization. Immunization is not only targeting children, but also for adults.

Jakarta Governor, Anies Baswedan said, realization of Outbreak Response Immunization (ORI) about diphtheria has been done to 622,000 out of 1.2 million children aged 0-19 years in North Jakarta and West Jakarta.

All Children in Jakarta Must Get Diphtheria Immunization

In the near future, it will be continued to East Jakarta, South Jakarta, Central Jakarta and Seribu Islands with total additional around 1.7 children with immunization aid from Health Ministry.

"In future we will expand its range. We must also cover adults," he stated, Wednesday (1/3).

According to the latest data, it is not separated from the increase in patient trends in 2014-2017. In 2014, there are 4 cases, and increased to 10 cases in 2015, and 17 cases in 2016. Then its case began to rampant up to 109 cases in 2017.

To realize the plan, he will collect data on the number of adults who need to be immunized. Afterwards, it would be continued with calculation of budget needs for procurement of immunization.

"We are preparing the steps and calculating their needs," he said.

Jakarta Health Dept. Head, Koesmadi Priharto added, to cover the need, it is most likely tackled by unused funds (Silpa) from 2017 APBD. He will also coordinate with Bio Farma in order to get the cheaper multi-doze immunization.

"For the single-doze immunization, its need is around Rp 844 billion. We hope we get the multi-doze immunization, as it is cheaper," he hoped.
